About Us
Now based at Lycroft Farm Business Park in Swanmore, Antiques Repair Shop specialise in modern and antique furniture restoration and conservation across Winchester, Southampton, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham and surrounding Hampshire areas.
After nearly 40 years associated with the antique trade, in 2020 Justin Newman set up Antiques Repair Shop in Royal Clarence Yard, Gosport. Within 3 years, the business had sufficiently grown to move into Building 307, Priddy’s Hard, Gosport, which is sited at the Old Royal Naval Armament Depot. Two years on, Antiques Repair Shop has relocated to Lycroft Farm Business Park, Swanmore which is in the heart of the Meon Valley, just a few miles from where Justin’s career in the antique trade began in 1985.
Experience
Justin’s career includes the following where he gained much experience in his field:
- The Royal Household and St Georges College – Senior Conservator based at Windsor Castle from 2005 to 2020
- Sotheby’s Fine Art Auctions – Restorer & Polisher
- Richard Higgins Conservation – specialising in Early English Clock Cases and Barometers
- Charles Manners & Co – across the USA replicating panelled rooms and libraries in the manner of the eminent 18th century architect Robert Adam
Training
Starting his career in 1986 as an antique restorer in Wickham, Justin completed the City & Guilds Furniture Craft Course at Highbury College in Portsmouth while working in the antiques trade.
In 1992, he focused on a full-time Furniture Conservation course at Rycotewood College in Oxford.
Justin was awarded with a full scholarship at the renowned West Dean College, completing a British Antique Dealers Association Diploma, Furniture Restoration and Conservation in 1995.
Justin is also a member of The British Watch and Clockmakers Guild.
